Leith Connections

The main project areas

Work has focussed aroundImage of benches with planting on a side street at the Shore

  • Great Junction Street
  • Leith Links
  • Shore area and Dock Street

Alongside this we are developing plans for

  • Hawthornvale Path to Seafield Road
  • Commercial Street
  • Replacing Lindsay Road Bridge

What we’ve achieved so far

  • created a southbound bus lane on the Shore to reduce non-residential traffic in the overall area while allowing loading in the morning to businesses.image showing art used to extend the pavement area and planters separating it from the road
  • introduced traffic filters to stop non-residential vehicles travelling through the area at Coburg Street, Sandport Place Bridge, Tolbooth Wynd and John’s Place. Resident, service or delivery vehicles still have access.
  • improved existing and created new community spaces with seating and planting at John’s Place, Coburg Street and Burgess Street
  • built out crossing points and dropped kerbs making it easier and safer to cross streets
  • removed street clutter such as sign poles and redundant wayfinding totems
  • created artwork on some streets to make it safer for school children and residents to get around.
