Phase 3 preliminary designs
- The west and north sides of the square will become a Restricted Parking Zone, with dedicated loading bays on the west side only. This will remove the through-route onto Charlotte Street.
- Historic ground levels around Charlotte Square will be reinstated, while the existing kerb line and footways on the north, south, and west sides will be retained.
- High-quality, natural materials in keeping with the historic character will be used to enhance the environment around Charlotte Square.
- Proposed new bus stops have been removed from Charlotte Square following feedback on the Concept Design.
- Walking and cycling connections (CCWEL) will be improved via a quiet street on the north and west sides of the square, linking into the segregated cycle track on Charlotte Street (east side).
- The cycle entry on the north side of Charlotte Square will be realigned to better preserve the historic kerb lines.
- Limited loading, parking, and taxi provision will be retained on the south side of Charlotte Square and South Charlotte Street
- Continuing to explore best vehicle access point to Glenfinlas Street along with expansion of resident and visitor parking (removal of pay and display parking and availability of coach waiting space).
