Your views matter
Thank you to everyone who took part in consultation and engagement surveys and meetings held from May 2024 to April 2025. The consultation period has now closed, and the final strategy has been developed.
Edinburgh’s Local Housing Strategy (LHS) covers all tenures and types of housing and sets out the priorities for delivering housing and related services. It is a statutory requirement that we produce a LHS every five years. With the fastest growing population in Scotland and facing unprecedented challenges, it has never been more important to have a strong housing strategy that reflects the views of those living in the city.
34 organisations submitted a written response and over 1,100 people were involved in the consultation surveys and engagement sessions across three phases. We listened to your views and they have helped to influence and shape the new strategy.
Phase 1
An initial survey ran for six weeks from May to June 2024 to find out what people's key housing priorities are for Edinburgh. Thank you to the 324 individuals and 21 organisations that responded.
Phase 2
Further consultation and engagement throughout June to October 2024 involved 550 people who participated in workshops, meetings and discussions.
Phase 3
A draft version of the LHS was available for comment for eight weeks from 26 February to 22 April 2025. 46 responses were received and further targeted engagement was carried out to add to the feedback received across the previous two phases.
What happens next
Consultation responses and feedback at engagement events have helped to shape the final strategy.
The final version of Edinburgh’s Local Housing Strategy was approved by the Housing Homelessness and Fair Work Committee in June 2025. Progress will be reported on annually.
